Dictionary Title Bar

The Title Bar of dictionaries in the Results pane provide access to the Dictionary Management and additional functions.

Left and right arrow buttons: Scroll alphabetically through the entries in the dictionary.

Minus and Plus buttons: Collapse and Expand the display of results from a dictionary source.

Dictionary Menu

When you click on the title (name) of the dictionary in the Results pane, the Dictionary menu opens.

About: Displays the Dictionary Details, of the selected dictionary, such as author, description and No. of Entries.

Disable: Disables the selected dictionary. A disabled dictionary will not return results until it is enabled again from the Manage Dictionaries dialog box.

Set as top result: Moves the selected dictionary to the top of the list in the Manage Dictionaries dialog box.

Add to Manage Dictionaries:

• If the dictionary is an online dictionary (not available for download),: the dictionary will be added to the list of Installed Dictionaries in the Manage Dictionaries dialog box.
• If the dictionary is available for download: a dialog box opens enabling you to define how you will get results from the dictionary:
  • Do not download. Get results from the dictionary only when working online. Selecting this option adds the dictionary to the list of Installed Dictionaries in the Manage Dictionaries dialog box.
  • Download and install the dictionary on your computer, and get results even when working offline. Selecting this option adds the dictionary to the list of Installed Dictionaries in the Manage Dictionaries dialog box.

Arrange results: Open the Manage Dictionaries dialog box with the selected dictionary highlighted.
Use the Move Up and Move Down buttons to reposition the source title in the list.

Manage Dictionaries

The Manage Dictionaries dialog box displays a list of all dictionaries that have been installed on your computer. Whenever you query a term, Babylon retrieves translations and definitions from all the active sources listed in the Manage Dictionaries dialog box.

The “Manage Dictionaries” dialog box allows you to add, remove and configure sources for use.

Installed Dictionaries Purchased dictionaries and free dictionaries from the Babylon website appear in the Installed Dictionaries section of the Manage list if you have downloaded and installed them on your computer. These dictionaries produce results even when you are working offline.

Online Dictionaries: If you selected the Add Dictionaries to Manage Dictionaries option in the Languages Dictionaries menu, but did not download the dictionary, it will appear in the Installed Dictionaries section of the Dictionaries list. These dictionaries produce results only when you are working online.

Active Dictionaries: The Dictionaries dialog box lets you enable and disable dictionaries.

• When selected, dictionaries are active and will produce results.
• When disabled, the source remains in the list of dictionaries, but will not produce results.

Result Languages: The Result Languages list allows you to add additional languages and receive more results from Babylon's online dictionaries and encyclopedias.

Show Results from Manage Dictionaries Only

When Show results from ‘Manage Dictionaries t’ only are selected, Babylon delivers results only from the Active dictionaries in the “Manage Dictionaries” list.

When cleared (default), additional relevant results from online sources are also delivered, provided you are connected to the Internet.

Arranging the Order of Results

Babylon performs queries and displays results according to the listed order of the sources in the Manage Dictionaries dialog box.

To change the order of the dictionaries in the list, use the Move Up and Move Down buttons in the Command area.

Installing Dictionaries

The Add Dictionaries button enables you to install dictionaries on your computer.

Selecting this option opens a browser window and allows you to select and install dictionaries from the Babylon website for online or offline (downloaded) use.

Dictionary Details

The More Details button shows details of the dictionary currently highlighted in the list. Details include author information, description and number of entries.

Most dictionaries also include links that enable you to Send suggestions to author and to recommend the title to others.

Uninstalling Dictionaries

The Remove button deletes dictionaries from the list.

You can also delete a dictionary by selecting its title and pressing Delete.

Result Languages

The Result Languages list allows you to select additional languages and receive more results from Babylon's online dictionaries and encyclopedias.

You can add as many languages as you want by clicking on the ‘Add Language’ button. To remove a language from the list, click on the ‘Rremove’ button.

Babylon delivers results according to the order of languages in this list. To set your preferred order, use the Move Up and Move Down buttons on the side to arrange the languages.
