  The comparatively dry soil or rock located between the ground surface and the top of the water table.

Horizontal zone that extends from the top of the water table to the ground surface. Soil and rock pore spaces in this zone may and may not have water.

A region below the Earth's surface that is marked by the presence of both water and air in the pores of rocks and soil. Also called aeration zone.
