Yo
[African] The primeval world-spirit, a non-animal trickster, of the West African Bamara and the Dahomean Negroes. He consists of the male elements fire and air, as well as the female elements water and earth. It was Yo who let the creator-god Pemba descend to earth. It is somewhat difficult to determine the precise psychical characteristics of Yo, but there is no question of his personality, which is marked by gross appetite and unreliability in his relations with those with whom he comes into contact.
