La fiebre amarilla, o vómito negro (también llamada la Plaga Americana), es una enfermedad viral aguda e infecciosa causada por "el virus de la fiebre amarilla", que pertenece a la familia de los Flaviviridae, y del género Flavivirus amaril. Es una causa importante de enfermedad hemorrágica en muchos países de África y sudamérica, a pesar de la existencia de una vacuna efectiva. Lo amarillo de la enfermedad se refiere a los signos de ictericia que afectan a algunos pacientes.
