A yard (abbreviation: yd) is a unit of length in several different systems including United States customary units, Imperial units and the former English units. It is equal to 3  feet or 36 inches. Under an agreement in 1959 between Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, the United Kingdom and the United States, the yard (known as the "international yard" in the United States) was legally defined to be exactly 0.9144 metres. Prior to that date, the legal definition of the yard when expressed in terms of metric units varied slightly from country to country.

Le yard (symbole: yd), appelé au Canada la verge (symbole: vg) est une unité de longueur du système d'unités de quelques pays dont, surtout, le Royaume-Uni (système d'unité impérial) et les États-Unis d'Amérique.

En yard är en anglosaxisk längdenhet som ursprungligen definierades som avståndet från kungens (Henrik I) näsa till spetsen av tummen med framsträckt hand. Översatt till dagens mått blir det ungefär 0,91 meter, (tre engelska fot).

Historycznie występują dwie nieznacznie różniące się wersje jednostki:
1. angielska (Imp. yd) oparta na fizycznym wzorcu wykonanym ze spiżu, przechowywanym w Londynie w gmachu parlamentu - starsza, której wartość w 1934 wynosiła:

1 yard angielski = 0,91440186  m

2. amerykańska (U.S. yd) oparta na metrze - określona w 1866 jako:

1 yard amerykański = 3600/3937 m = ok. 0.91440183 m

Aktualnie określa się obydwie na podstawie metra.

1 yard = 3 stopy = 36 cali = 0,9144 m

Po wprowadzeniu układu SI został zastąpiony metrem.
