In linguistics, word order typology refers to the study of the order of the syntactic constituents of a language, and how different languages can employ different orders. Correlations between orders found in different syntactic subdomains are also of interest. The primary word orders that are of interest are the constituent order of a clause—the relative order of subject, object, and verb; the order of modifiers (adjectives, numerals, demonstratives, possessives, and adjuncts) in a noun phrase; and the order of adverbials.

Die Wortstellung (auch Satzstellung, Topologie, Satzgliedfolge, Wortfolge) ist die Anordnung der Wörter bzw. Satzglieder innerhalb eines Satzes; insbesondere die von Subjekt, Objekt, und Prädikat (oder Verb). Diese Anordnung folgt bestimmten Regeln, die in der Grammatik festgelegt sind. Bestimmte topologische Strukturen können durch den semantischen Gehalt, die Motivation des Sprechers und andere Phänomene determiniert werden.

Grundordföljd är vilken ordning fraser kommer i en prototypisk huvudsats. Det rör sig alltså inte om egentlig ordföljd utan om vilken ordning satsdelarna subjekt, verb och objekt kommer i.

語順（ごじゅん／word order）とは，言語類型論的に把握される，文中における単語の並び方である．大抵の言語は基本的な語順（the unmarked word order）を持つ．この基本性にたいし，特定の構文要素が強調されて modality を指定される際に起こる語順の変化もまた多くの言語にみられる（変化した語順は the marked word order と呼ばれる）．
