Weather forecasting is the application of science and technology to predict the state of the atmosphere for a future time and a given location.Human beings have attempted to predict the weather since time immemorial. Today, weather forecasts are made by collecting quantitative data about the current state of the atmosphere and using  scientific understanding of atmospheric processes to project how the atmosphere will evolve. The chaotic nature of the atmosphere, the massive computational power required to solve the equations that describe the atmosphere, and incomplete understanding of atmospheric processes mean that forecasts become less accurate as the difference in time between the present moment and the time for which the forecast is being made (the range of the forecast) increases.

La prévision météorologique est une application des connaissances en météorologie et des techniques modernes de prises de données et d’informatique pour prédire l’état de l’atmosphère à un temps ultérieur. L’histoire de la prévision du temps remonte aux temps immémoriaux avec les oracles et devins mais la science moderne date vraiment de la fin du et du début du . Elle s’est cependant affirmée depuis la Deuxième Guerre mondiale alors que les moyens techniques comme le radar et les communications modernes ont rendu l’accès aux données plus rapide et plus nombreuses.

Die Wettervorhersage wird von staatlichen und privaten Wetterdiensten geleistet. Die Voraussetzung dazu liefert die Meteorologie als Naturwissenschaft. Ziel der Wettervorhersage ist die Prognose eines Zustandes der Atmosphäre zu einer bestimmten Zeit an einem bestimmten Ort oder in einem bestimmten Gebiet. Dabei sind tatsächlich nicht nur Wettererscheinungen, die sich am Boden auswirken gemeint, sondern es wird die gesamte Atmosphäre betrachtet.Das Wetter - als physikalisches Ereignis - lässt sich durch entsprechende Naturgesetze beschreiben. Die grundlegende Idee einer Wetterprognose ist es, aus einem bereits vergangenen und dem aktuellen Zustand der Atmosphäre, unter Anwendung der bekannten physikalischen Regeln, einen Zustand in der Zukunft abzuleiten.

Prognoza pogody - przewidywanie czasowych i przestrzennych zmian stanu atmosfery. Prognozy pogody można sklasyfikować w zależności od czasu prognozy, obszaru, i sposobu prognozy. Podstawowe parametry opisujące stan atmosfery to ciśnienie, temperatura, prędkość i kierunek wiatru. Związane z nimi wielkości takie jak zachmurzenie, zamglenie, stan morza, zanieczyszczenia atmosferyczne także są elementami prognozy pogody i często zależą od prognozy podstawowych elementów. Prognoza pogody zależy od ilości i jakości danych początkowych. Ze względu na chaotyczną naturę procesów opisujących rozwój zjawisk atmosferycznych prognoza pogody staje się z czasem coraz mniej dokładna.

Het weerbericht is een bericht over het verwachte weer, en wordt onder andere tijdens het journaal op radio en televisie gegeven. De presentator van het weerbericht wordt gewoonlijk weerman of weervrouw genoemd.In Nederland werd het weerbericht een tijdlang opgesteld door het KNMI. In de meeste weerberichten vindt men terug:Een redelijk nauwkeurige voorspelling van de temperatuur, de neerslag, de bewolking en de wind, voor de rest van de huidige dag, en de volgende dag.Een verwachte trend voor meer dagen, soms tot negen dagen vooruit.
