The was (wahz) ("power, dominion") sceptre is a symbol that appeared often in relics, art and hieroglyphics associated with the ancient Egyptian religion. They appear as long, straight staffs, with a stylized animal head on top and a forked end.

Was (novel)
Was (or Was... in the UK edition) is a WFA nominated 1992 parallel novel by American author Geoff Ryman, focusing on the (in some cases, tragic) lives of disparate individuals linked to one another by L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and the musical film version. Ranging across time and space from the 1860s Kansas to the late 1980s California, among other locations, the novel's characters include a tapestry of characters, some real but most fictitious, whose lives indirectly affect each other.

Ouas
Ouas est le nom d'un sceptre royal dans l’ancienne Égypte. À l'origine il s’agissait d’un bâton à l'extrémité inférieure fourchue, destiné à capturer les serpents pour extraire leur venin. Connu depuis l'époque archaïque, il est orné à son extrémité supérieure de la tête de Seth sous les traits d’un lévrier stylisé. Il symbolise la puissance divine que les dieux transmettent à pharaon comme insigne de son pouvoir.
