Israeli West Bank barrier
The Israeli West Bank barrier is a
separation barrier being constructed by
Israel consisting of a network of fences with vehicle-barrier trenches surrounded by an on average 60 meters wide exclusion area (90%) and up to 8 meters high concrete walls (10%). It is located mainly within the
West Bank, partly along the
1949 Armistice line, or "
Green Line" between Israel and
Jordan which now demarcates the West Bank. As of April 2006 the length of the barrier as approved by the Israeli government is 703 kilometers (436 miles) long. Approximately 58.04% has been constructed, 8.96% is under construction, and construction has not yet begun on 33% of the barrier. The
Jerusalem Post reported in
July,
2007 that the barrier may not be fully constructed until
2010, seven
years after it was originally supposed to be completed.

Nathaniel Wallich
Nathaniel Wallich (
28 January 1786 -
28 April 1854) was a
surgeon and
botanist.Born in
Copenhagen, in
1806 and was born as Nathan ben Wulff. His father Wulff ben Wallich (or Wolff Wallich) was a merchant who settled in Denmark and came from Altona near Hamburg late in the 18th century. He later adopted the more name Nathan Wallich, and as an adult Nathaniel. Wallich obtained the diploma of the Royal Academy of Surgeons at Copenhagen and at the end of the year was appointed as Surgeon in the Danish settlement at
Serampore, then known as Frederischnagor in
Bengal. He also studied botany with
Martin Vahl. He sailed for
India in April
1807 via the African cape and arrived at Serampore the following November.

La barrière de séparation israélienne est une
barrière de séparation construite par
Israël en
Cisjordanie sous le nom de "clôture de sécurité" (security fence), dans le but officiel d'empêcher physiquement toute "intrusion de
terroristes palestiniens" en Israël. Cette construction, dont le tracé de près de 700 km est controversé et n'a pas été foncièrement modifié malgré les pressions internationales, consiste dans sa longueur en une succession de
murs, de tranchées et de portiques électroniques.

Israelische Sperranlagen
Als Israelische Sperranlagen bezeichnet man eine 759 km lange Absperrung, die das
israelische Kernland vom
Westjordanland trennen soll. Der Bau wurde im Jahre 2003, in der zweiten Amtszeit des israelischen Premierministers
Ariel Scharon, begonnen. Die Fertigstellung sollte ursprünglich bis zum Sommer 2005 erfolgen, wegen verschiedener Eingaben beim Obersten Gerichtshof Israels verzögerten sich die Arbeiten, die immer noch nicht abgeschlossen sind.

Wand, also ein vertikales, flaches Bauteil. Im ursprünglichen Wortsinn besteht sie aus
Mauerwerk, ist also aus
Naturstein oder künstlichen
Steinen und meist einem Bindestoff, dem
Mörtel, zusammengefügt. Im Sprachgebrauch bezeichnet man aber auch Wände aus Stahlbeton als Mauer. Wesentliches Merkmal (in Abgrenzung zum Begriff
Wand) ist die Massivität, die einen Parameter für eine hohe Sicherheit darstellt. Die Mauerabdeckung wird Mauerkrone genannt. Aufgeschichtete Mauern ohne Verwendung von
Mörtel werden
Trockenmauern genannt.
