The Western Wall, Wailing Wall or Kotel (Hebrew: , translit.: ; Ashkenazic pronunciation: Kosel; , translit.: Ḥā'iṭ Al-Burāq, translat.: The Buraq Wall) is located in the Old City of Jerusalem at the foot of the western side of the Temple Mount. It is a remnant of the ancient wall that surrounded the Jewish Temple's courtyard, and is arguably the most sacred site recognized by the Jewish faith outside of the Temple Mount itself. Just over half the wall, including its 17 courses located below street level, dates from the end of the Second Temple period, commonly believed to have been constructed around 19 BCE by Herod the Great, but recent excavations indicate that the works were not finished during Herod's lifetime. The remaining layers were added from the 7th century onwards. The Western Wall refers not only to the exposed section facing a large plaza in the Jewish Quarter, but also to the sections concealed behind structures running along the whole length of the Temple Mount, such as the Little Western Wall–a 25 ft (8 m) section in the Muslim Quarter.

Die Klagemauer (hebräisch הכותל המערבי ha'kotel ha'ma'arawi, wörtlich westliche Mauer, umgangssprachlich auf Hebräisch häufig auch einfach nur Mauer bzw. כותל Kotel genannt) in der Altstadt von Jerusalem ist eine religiöse Stätte des Judentums.

Le Mur occidental (hébreu: הכותל המערבי, translit.: HaKotel HaMa'aravi), surnommé le Kotel, est un mur de soutènement à Jérusalem-Est datant de l'époque du Second Temple (516 avant l'ère commune - 70 de l'ère commune). Il est également connu comme le mur des Lamentations, bien que ce terme, introduit par les mandataires britanniques, qui le traduisirent de l'arabe il-Mabka, soit tombé en disgrâce tant dans les milieux juifs que dans les milieux arabes, qui le nomment depuis les années 1920 El-Bourak, le nom de l'un des chevaux de Mahomet lorsqu'il fit son voyage nocturne.

Västra muren (hebreiska: הכותל המערבי‎, HaKotel HaMa'aravi) är den enda del av templet i Jerusalem som återstår efter dess förstörelse år 70. På svenska kallas muren ofta Klagomuren, men det är en kristen beteckning. Platsen är helig för judar och människor från hela världen reser hit. Bland muslimer är muren känd som al-Buraq, grundat på en tradition som säger att detta var den plats där profeten Muhammed under den nattliga resan tjudrade sin bevingade fåle, Buraq. Vissa muslimer har förklarat att Västra muren tillhör Al-Aqsamoskén.

Ściana Płaczu (hebr. הכותל המערבי, Kotel ha-Maarawi), zwana też Murem Zachodnim, jest jedyną zachowaną do dnia dzisiejszego pozostałością Świątyni Jerozolimskiej. W chwili obecnej jest to najświętsze miejsce judaizmu. Zachowane mury są fragmentem drugiej świątyni wybudowanej na wzgórzu Moria.
