Swimming pool
A swimming pool, swimming bath, wading pool, paddling pool, or simply a pool, is a container filled with water intended for swimming or water-based recreation. There are many standard sizes; the largest is the Olympic-size swimming pool. A pool can be built either above or in the ground, and from materials such as concrete (also known as gunite), metal, plastic or fiberglass.

Schwimmbecken
Ein Schwimmbecken, oft auch engl. Swimming-Pool genannt, ist ein meistens mit Wasser aufgefülltes Behältnis, das sich mit der Wasseroberfläche meistens auf einer Ebene mit dem Boden befindet. Es wird zum Baden, Schwimmen, Spielen oder für den Schwimmsport und andere Wassersportarten verwendet. Das klassische Schwimmbecken besitzt eine rechteckige Form und ist meistens gefliest.

Basen plywacki
Basen pływacki (fr. bassin - miska, miednica) - sztuczny, obudowany zbiornik wody, w kształcie prostokąta; zazwyczaj o znormalizowanych wymiarach, przeznaczony do:
- pływania rekreacyjnego
- rozgrywania sportowych konkurencji pływackich
- rozgrywania sportowych konkurencji skoków do wody
- uprawiania waterpolo
Na basenach obowiązuje strój kąpielowy bądź zupełny brak ubrania.
Na niektórych największych krytych basenach pływackich wyposażonych w dodatkowy osprzęt do wytwarzania "sztucznego wiatru" rozgrywane są również niektóre z konkurencji żeglarskich czy zawody windsurfingowe.
