Von Willebrand disease (vWD) is the most common hereditary coagulation abnormality described in humans, although it can also be acquired as a result of other medical conditions. It arises from a qualitative or quantitative deficiency of von Willebrand factor (vWF), a multimeric protein that is required for platelet adhesion. It is known to affect humans and dogs (notably Doberman Pinschers), and rarely swine, cattle, horses, and cats. There are three forms of vWD: inherited, acquired and pseudo or platelet type. There are three types of hereditary vWD: vWD Type I, vWD Type II and vWD III. Within the three inherited types of vWD there are various subtypes. Platelet type vWD is also an inherited condition.

Das Willebrand-Jürgens-Syndrom, nach dem finnischen Arzt Erik Adolf von Willebrand (1870–1949) und dem deutschen Arzt Rudolf Jürgens (1898–1961), (syn. Angiohämophilie, von-Willebrand-Jürgens-Syndrom, von-Willebrand-Krankheit) ist die häufigste angeborene Krankheit mit erhöhter Blutungsneigung. Es handelt sich dabei um eine Gruppe von hämorrhagischen Diathesen, deren gemeinsames Merkmal eine quantitative oder qualitative Abweichung des von-Willebrand-Faktors ist, der eine wichtige Rolle bei der Blutgerinnung spielt. Viele Betroffene leben ohne die Kenntnis der Erkrankung und ohne wesentliche gesundheitliche Beeinträchtigungen.

La maladie de Willebrand ou plutôt la maladie de von Willebrand ou syndrome de Willebrand, médecin finlandais Erik Adolf von Willebrand qui a été le premier à décrire la maladie en 1925, est la plus fréquente des maladies hémorragiques constitutionnelles (prévalence mondiale : 1 %). Touchant les deux sexes, il n’existe pas une maladie de Willebrand mais un ensemble de maladies de Willebrand qui ont comme point commun une anomalie quantitative ou qualitative du facteur Willebrand.

Dels orsakar brist på von Willebrands faktor att blodplättarna har svårt att binda samman (primär hemostas), men vW-faktorn är även viktig som en hjälpfaktor till faktor VIII (sekundär/humoral hemostas). Sjukdomen drabbar - i motsats till hemofili A och hemofili B - både män och kvinnor.

Choroba von Willebranda (łac. morbus von Willebrandi, ang. Von Willebrand disease, vWD) jest chorobą charakteryzującą się skłonnością do krwawień samoistnych lub po urazach (operacja, uderzenie itp.). Występuje w postaci ciężkiej, umiarkowanej i lekkiej. Przyczyną jej jest brak we krwi czynnika von Willebranda odpowiedzialnego za zlepianie się płytek krwi i ochranianie czynnika krzepnięcia VIII.
