Vitamin A
Vitamin A (or Vitamin A Retinol, retinal, and four carotenoids including beta carotene) is a vitamin that is needed by the retina of the eye in the form of a specific metabolite, the light-absorbing molecule retinal, that is necessary for both low-light (scotopic vision) and color vision. Vitamin A also functions in a very different role as an irreversibly oxidized form of retinol known as retinoic acid, which is an important hormone-like growth factor for epithelial and other cells.

Retinol
Retinol, auch Vitamin A1 oder Axerophthol, ist ein fettlösliches, essentielles Vitamin. Chemisch gesehen gehört Retinol zu den Diterpenen und ist ein einwertiger, primärer Alkohol. Der enthaltene Ring aus sechs Kohlenstoffatomen wird ß-Jononring genannt, und das Molekül weist zudem eine Reihe konjugierter Doppelbindungen auf, die für seine Beteiligung am Sehvorgang entscheidend sind.

Witamina A
Witamina A (nazwa chemiczna: retinol, akseroftol, ATC: A 11 CA 01) - organiczny związek chemiczny, alkohol, pochodna β-karotenu, zaliczana do grupy karotenoidów, pełniąca w organizmie rolę witaminy.
Powstaje ona w tkankach zwierzęcych wskutek utleniania kilku związków karotenowych pospolitych w roślinach. Utlenianie odbywa się pod wpływem fermentów–karotenaz, które występują w ścianie jelit i w komórkach siateczkowych wątroby.
Witamina dostarczana jest do organizmu poprzez spożywanie masła, jaj, mleka, wątroby, sera, tłustego mięsa. Owoce i warzywa zawierające karotenoidy, np. pomidory, marchew; zawierają prowitaminę A, która może zostać przetworzona w ludzkim organizmie w witaminę.
