Eine Vita (lateinisch vita = „Leben, Lebenszeit, Lebensweise“) ist im Allgemeinen die literarische Beschreibung des Lebens einer bekannten Persönlichkeit und zählt zur literarischen Gattung der Biografie. Traditionell werden bevorzugt antike und mittelalterliche Biografien „Viten“ (oder „Vitae“) genannt. Eine Sonderform stellen die Heiligenlegenden dar.
