Vinculum ist die Produktbezeichnung für eine Familie von Embedded USB Host Controller von dem schottischen Chiphersteller "Future Technology Devices International" kurz FTDI.Der Begriff Vinculum kommt aus der lateinischen Sprache und bedeutet Band. Er wurde auch schon von Leibniz im Begriff Vinculum Substantiale mit der Bedeutung von Vereinigung verwendet. Ebenso taucht der Begriff in Star-Trek Voyager auf, wo es eine Zentraleinheit des Volks der Borg darstellt, welches die Geister der Crewmitglieder des Borg-Schiffes verbindet (Hive-Bewusstsein).
