A frog at the bottom of a well.
A person with a very limited outlook. Compare with 盲人摸象 (mang2 ren2 mo1 xiang4) and 舍本逐末 (she3 ben3 zhu2 mo4).

 
入木三分
ru4 mu4 san1 fen1
Eating into the wood by three tenths on an inch.
Originally, this idiom was used to describe forceful calligraphy with bold strokes that ate into the wood. Nowadays the phrase mostly alludes to incisive writings or views. Penetrating. Profound. Keen.

 
刮目相看
gua1 mu4 xiang1 kan4
Rubbing one's eyes before looking (at something).
Said of the necessity of regarding somebody in a new light instead of sticking to an old view.

 
牝牡骊黄
pin4 mu3 li2 huang2
A question of a yellow mare or a black stallion.
Referring to a person who only looks to appearance, but neglects essence. A question of outward appearance. Superficial.

Swallowing raw and skinning alive.
To copy mechanically the views and writings of others.

mang2 ren2 mo1 xiang4
Blind men sizing up an elephant.
Said of persons who take the part for the whole. Judging the whole situation by only looking at minor details. Compare with 井底之蛙 (jing3 di3 zhi1 wa1) and 舍本逐末 (she3 ben3 zhu2 mo4).

 
走马看花
zou3 ma3 kan4 hua1
Looking at the flowers while riding a horse.
To be forced to do something in a hurry. Have a quick look at something. Trying to get the full view of something in much too short a time. Alternative form: 走马观花 (zou3 ma3 guan1 hua1).
