A video game console is an interactive entertainment computer or customized computer system that produces a video display signal which can be used with a display device (a television, monitor, etc.) to display a video game. The term "video game console" is used to distinguish a machine designed for people to buy and use primarily for playing video games on a TV. As of 2007, it is estimated that video game consoles have made up 75% of the world's gaming market.

Spielkonsolen sind Computer oder computerähnliche Geräte, die in erster Linie für Videospiele entwickelt werden. Neben dem Spielen bieten Spielkonsolen zunehmend weitere Funktionen (zum Beispiel Wiedergabe von Audio-CDs und DVD-Video).

Une console de jeux vidéo est un système électronique dédié au jeu vidéo. Il existe deux types principaux de consoles :

• les consoles de salon, qui se branchent sur un téléviseur ;
• les consoles portables, de petite taille, qui possèdent leur propre écran et sont de ce fait autonomes et facilement transportables.

En spelkonsol eller spelmaskin är en typ av dator som tillverkas enkom för att spela tv-spel. Spelkonsolen strävar efter att vara så enkel att använda som möjligt, till exempel går det att använda en vanlig tv-apparat som bildskärm, och uppgradering görs i första hand av en helt ny maskin snarare än nya komponenter. Spelkonsoler kan vara både stationära och portabla.

Konsola do gier – urządzenie o wyspecjalizowanej architekturze przeznaczone do uruchamiania gier wideo, zwykle umieszczone w niedużej obudowie wyposażonej w niezbędne złącza (dla joypadów, telewizora, zasilania i inne). Dostępne są również zaawansowane urządzenia do sterowania grą, np.:

• arcade stick (głównie do bijatyk, przewijanych strzelanin oraz tzw. gier arcade),
• pistolet (do strzelanin FPP, w których nie kieruje się chodem bohatera),
• kierownica (do gier wyścigowych),
• mata (do gier tanecznych),
• pokrętło sterujące – używane w klasycznych grach typu Pong (dziś jako ciekawostka).
