In geography a vale is a wide river valley, usually with a particularly wide flood plain or flat valley bottom. Vales commonly occur between the escarpment slopes of pairs of chalk downs, where the chalk dome has been eroded, exposing less resistant underlying rock, usually clay.

Våle is a former municipality in Vestfold county, Norway. The administrative centre was Sørby.The municipality was created in 1837 as Waale formannskapsdistrikt. According to the 1835 census the municipality had a population of 2,408. On 16 July 1873 an uninhabited part of Våle was moved to Ramnes municipality following a royal resolution. In 1947 a part of Botne with 8 inhabitants was moved to Våle.
