Uranium dioxide
Uranium dioxide (O2), an oxide of uranium, also known as urania or uranic oxide is a black, radioactive, crystalline powder. It occurs naturally in the mineral uraninite. It has a melting point of 2800°C and, if produced from enriched uranium it is used in nuclear fuel rods in nuclear reactors. A mixture of uranium and plutonium dioxides is used as MOX fuel. Prior to 1960 it was used as yellow and black color in ceramic glazes and glass.
