The term upgrade refers to the replacement of a product with a newer version of the same product. It is most often used in computing and consumer electronics, generally meaning a replacement of hardware, software or firmware with a newer or better version, in order to bring the system up to date or to improve its characteristics. Mit Upgrade [] (englisch upgrade = Aufrüstung, Verbesserung) wird die Änderung einer Konfiguration auf eine leistungsfähigere oder höherwertige Konfiguration bezeichnet, wobei es sich bei der leistungsfähigeren oder höherwertigen Konfiguration stets um eine Variante des zugrundeliegenden Produkts handelt, aber nicht um eine Version (s. hierzu update). Bei dem zugrundeliegenden Produkt kann es sich u.a. um Computerhard-, Software, Fahrkarten, Flugtickets, Wertpapierbewertungen durch Ratingagenturen, Tarife von Telekommunikationsanbietern oder Tarife bei Versicherungen handeln.
