UNISON — the Public Service Union is the second largest trade union in the United Kingdom, with over 1.3 million members.It was formed in 1993 when three previous public sector trade unions, the National and Local Government Officers Association (NALGO), the National Union of Public Employees (NUPE) and the Confederation of Health Service Employees (COHSE) merged.UNISON's current general secretary is Dave Prentis. He was elected on 28 February 2000, and took up the post on 1 January 2001, succeeding Rodney Bickerstaffe who had held the post for five years.

In music, a unison is an interval, the ratio of 1:1 or 0 half steps and zero cents. Two tones in unison are considered to be the same pitch, but are still perceivable as coming from separate sources. The unison is considered the most consonant interval while the near unison is considered the most dissonant. The unison is also the easiest interval to tune.

Unison ist ein Synchronisierungsprogramm für Unix/Linux, Windows, Mac OS X, Solaris und einige andere Betriebssysteme. Es eignet sich um Daten zwischen zwei Computern (oder zwei Verzeichnissen auf einem Computer) abzugleichen. Durch den Vergleich der Daten auf beiden Rechnern können Unterschiede gefunden werden und beide Computer auf den gleichen Stand gebracht werden.

Der musikalische Begriff unisono (italienisch „Einklang“) bezeichnet das Verfahren, alle Beteiligten eines Klangkörpers gemeinsam dieselbe Melodie singen bzw. spielen, auch in verschiedenen Oktaven. Der erzielte Effekt besteht in starker Durchschlagskraft bei gleichzeitig großer Klangentfaltung. Die Kultur europäischer Kunstmusik strebt hier größtmögliche Präzision und damit möglichst vollständigen Verschmelzung zu einem einheitlichen Gesamtklang an; andere Kulturen bevorzugen die Individualisierung der Einzelstimmen durch kleine individuelle Abweichungen von einander.
