Before 1995 which was when the former monarch passed on, it was a relatively peaceful and peace loving town. The new yam festival was a delight as well as the Uzu Iyi festival which was a masqurade festival that initally started off the new planting season. Nobody was allowed to plant until after this festival. The people of Uke loved and celebrated these festivals as one body as they were symbols of their unity.
