A tripod (from Greek "τρίπους" - tripous < "τρία" - tria + "πούς" - pous in Ancient Greek or "πόδι" - podi in Modern Greek, i.e. three+foot) is a portable three-legged frame, used as a platform for supporting the weight and maintaining the stability of some other object. A tripod provides stability against downward forces, horizontal forces and moments about horizontal axes. The positioning of the three feet away from the vertical centre allows the tripod better leverage for resisting lateral forces. Tripods have the disadvantage of being heavy and bulky although they can be used with large equipment.

Ein Dreibein ist die kleinste, aus drei miteinander verbundenen Stäben bestehende statisch bestimmte Konstruktion, die kippfrei auf jedem beliebigen Untergrund stehen kann.

En tripod (av latinets tri och pedes, ”tre fötter”) är ett stativ med tre ben. Tripoder används bland annat fotografering och lavetter för t.ex. tunga kulsprutor. Fördelen med ett trebent stativ står stabilt på alla fasta underlag.

三脚（さんきゃく, Tripod）は3本の脚を持つ台のことである。三脚架（さんきゃくか）、三脚台（さんきゃくだい）などともいう。なお、一本脚の台は、一脚(Unipod)という。
