Trichotillomania
Trichotillomania, which is classified as an impulse control disorder by DSM-IV, is the compulsive urge to pull out one's own hair leading to noticeable hair loss, distress, and social or functional impairment, and in some cases one may even consume the hair. It is often chronic and difficult to treat.

Trichotillomanie
Bei der Trichotillomanie – zusammengesetzt aus griech. thrix (Haar), tillein (rupfen) und mania (Raserei, Wahnsinn) – handelt es sich um eine komplexe Störung der Impulskontrolle, deren augenscheinlichstes Erscheinungsbild darin besteht, dass sich Betroffene die eigenen Haare ausreißen.

Trichotillomania
Trichotillomania (z gr.) - obsesja na punkcie owłosienia, niemożność powstrzymania się od wyrywania włosów. Czynność wyrywania włosów poprzedzana wzrastającym napięciem, a po jej zakończeniu następuje uczucie ulgi lub zadowolenia. Niekiedy przymusowi wyrywania włosów towarzyszy trichofagia, czyli przymus ich zjadania.

Trichotillomanie
Trichotillomanie is een psychische aandoening die in het DSM-IV is ingedeeld bij de stoornissen in de impulsbeheersing. Wie aan deze aandoening lijdt, heeft een overmatige aandrang om zijn haren uit te trekken, zowel hoofdhaar, wimpers en wenkbrauwen als haar op andere delen van het lichaam.
Door het uittrekken van de haren ontstaan kale plekken, wat schaamte of frustratie kan opleveren, maar verder leiden TTM-lijders een normaal leven. Sommige psychiaters zien trichotillomanie als een vorm van de obsessief-compulsieve stoornis, terwijl anderen het niet als een aandoening zien, maar als een tamelijk onschuldige gedragsvorm, te vergelijken met nagelbijten. Feit is in ieder geval dat bij TTM-lijders niet meer persoonlijkheidsstoornissen voorkomen dan bij anderen.
