Top
A top (also called spinning top or spintop) is a toy that can be spun on an axis, balancing on a point. This motion is produced in the most simple forms of top by twirling the stem using the fingers. More sophisticated tops are spun by holding the axis firmly while pulling a string or twisting a stick or pushing an auger as shown in the pictures on this page. In the kinds with an auger, an internal weight rotates, producing an overall circular motion.

Kreisel
Ein Kreisel ist ursprünglich ein Kinderspielzeug, das auf einer Unterlage um eine senkrecht gehaltene Achse gedreht wird und dann eine Weile in etwa die Achsrichtung beibehält, wobei der Kreisel auf der Unterlage umherwandert. In der Physik ist ein Kreisel ein (starrer) Körper, der um eine Achse rotiert, sich ansonsten frei bewegen kann oder auch an einem Achsenende oder beiden mehr oder weniger festgehalten wird. Kreisel müssen in der Physik nicht notwendigerweise rotationssymmetrisch sein. Der Kreisel ist eines der ältesten Spielzeuge, welches an archäologischen Fundstellen anzutreffen ist. Neben dem Gebrauch des Spielzeugs wurden Kreisel historisch auch für Glücksspiele und für die Wahrsagung verwendet. In der Technik werden Kreisel beispielsweise zur Stabilisierung und Navigation genutzt, da die Richtung des Drehimpulses gleich bleibt, wenn keine Kraft auf sie wirkt. Der Grund dafür ist die Drehimpulserhaltung. Stimmt die Drehachse mit der Richtung des Drehimpulses zusammen, ändert sich auch diese nicht.

Toupie (jouet)
Une toupie est un jouet destiné à tourner sur lui-même le plus longtemps possible, en équilibre sur sa pointe. Il existe de nombreuses formes de toupies, mais le principe de base est toujours le même :
- une masse équilibrée (centre de gravité sur l'axe de rotation) ;
- un grand moment d'inertie par rapport à l'axe, (masses réparties loin de l'axe) ;
- contact ponctuel sur l'axe (ou très proche) avec le sol (diminution des effets du frottement) ;
- un système de mise en rotation (tige, ficelle...) permet de lancer la toupie. Une fois en rotation, la toupie se comporte comme un gyroscope.

Top - wolny, górny koniec pionowych drzewc w omasztowaniu żaglowca, tj. masztów. Top masztu drewnianego zakończony jest jabłkiem.
Od topu biorą nazwy liny olinowania stałego, mocowane przy szczycie masztu (topwanta, topsztag), oraz podnoszone u szczytu masztu żagle (topsel, topsztaksel).

Bak (zabawka)
Bąk - rodzaj zabawki o przekroju eliptycznym, wirującej dookoła swojej osi. Urządzenie jest wprawiane w ruch za pomocą naciścięcia tłoka wędrującego po osi ze spiralnym nacięciem.
