TEV protease
The TEV protease is a highly site-specific protease that is found in the Tobacco Etch Virus (TEV). It is a cysteine protease. The optimum recognition site for this enzyme is the sequence Glu-Asn-Leu-Tyr-Phe-Gln-Gly and cleavage occurs between the Gln and Gly residues. Some of the advantages of this enzyme are its high specificity and its high activity rate. One of the main uses of this protein is for removing affinity tags from purified proteins.
