Tit for tat
Tit for tat is an English saying meaning "equivalent retaliation". It is also a highly effective strategy in game theory for the iterated prisoner's dilemma. The strategy was first introduced by Anatol Rapoport in Robert Axelrod's two tournaments, held around 1980. An agent using this strategy will initially cooperate, then respond in kind to an opponent's previous action. If the opponent previously was cooperative, the agent is cooperative. If not, the agent is not. This is similar to superrationality and reciprocal altruism in biology.

Tit for tat
Tit for Tat (engl. Redewendung, auf deutsch „wie du mir, so ich dir“), ist eine durch Robert Axelrods Buch Die Evolution der Kooperation bekannt gewordene Strategie für ein Spiel im Sinne der Spieltheorie. Sie bezeichnet eine Variante der Verhaltensregel „Auge um Auge, Zahn um Zahn: Tue anderen so, wie sie dir getan haben“. Dieses Teilzitat aus dem Alten Testament wird meist als Anweisung an das Opfer oder seine Vertreter aufgefasst, dem Täter Gleiches mit Gleichem „heimzuzahlen“. Bereits in den sechziger Jahren wurde die Strategie des „Tit for Tat“ von Anatol Rapoport (Universität Toronto) erfunden.

Pomimo prostoty strategia ta jest zaskakująco wydajna, ponieważ spełnia najważniejsze kryteria:

  • przyjazność - nie zrywa współpracy jako pierwsza
  • natychmiastowa obrona - na atak odpowiada odwetem
  • przewidywalność - przeciwnik może łatwo przewidzieć jej zachowanie i dostosować się do niego
  • skłonność do wybaczania - jeśli przeciwnik zmieni swoje postępowanie potrafi wybaczyć
  • ma gwarancje, że nie da wyniku gorszego niż wynik przeciwnika o więcej niż różnica jednej rundy, przez co odporna jest nie tylko na graczy racjonalnych, którym zależy na jak najwyższym wyniku własnym, ale też na graczy zazdrosnych, którym zależy na jak największej różnicy wyników.
