tine test

The Tine test is a multiple puncture tuberculin skin test used to aid in the medical diagnosis of tuberculosis (TB). This test uses a small "button" that has four to six short needles coated with TB antigens (tuberculin). The needles are pressed into the skin (usually on the inner side of the forearm), forcing the antigens into skin. The test is read by measuring the size of the largest papule. A negative result is the presence of no papules.

Ein Tuberkulintest ist ein Hauttest mit Tuberkulin, einem Präparat, das aus flüssigen Mykobakterien-Kulturen filtriert wird. Tuberkulin ruft beim Einbringen in die Haut eine Reaktion mit sensibilisierten T-Lymphozyten hervor, die bei Kontakt mit Tuberkulose-Erregern gebildet werden. Der Test dient also dazu, eine vorangegangene oder gegenwärtige Tuberkulose-Infektion zu erkennen. Tuberkulin wurde von Robert Koch ursprünglich als Tuberkulose-Heilmittel (Therapeutikum) entwickelt. Es erwies sich jedoch dazu als ungeeignet. Als Tuberkulose-Diagnostikum ist es dagegen in den vergangenen 100 Jahren außerordentlich wichtig gewesen (siehe unten).
