Tin is a chemical element in the periodic table that has the symbol Sn and atomic number 50. This silvery, malleable poor metal that is not easily oxidized in air and resists corrosion is found in many alloys and is used to coat other metals to prevent corrosion. Tin is obtained chiefly from the mineral cassiterite, where it occurs as an oxide. It can be alloyed with copper to make bronze.

Titanium nitride (N) (sometimes known as Tinite) is an extremely hard (~85 Rockwell C Hardness or ~2500 Vickers Hardness or 24.5 gigapascals), ceramic material, often used as a coating on titanium alloy, steel, carbide, and aluminum components to improve the substrate's surface properties. TiN has excellent infrared (IR) reflectivity properties, reflecting in a spectrum similar to elemental gold (Au). Depending on the substrate material and surface finish, TiN will have a coefficient of friction ranging from 0.4 to 0.9 versus itself (non-lubricated). Typical formation has a crystal structure of NaCl-type with a roughly 1:1 stoichiometry; however TiNx compounds with x ranging from 0.6 to 1.2 are thermodynamically stable. TiN will oxidize at 600 °C (~1100 °F) at normal atmosphere, and has a melting point of 2930 °C.

Zinn (mittelhochdeutsch bzw. althochdeutsch zin „Zinn“; wohl von germanisch "tina"; verwandt mit althochdeutsch "zein": 'Stab', 'Stäbchen', 'Zweig'; in bezug auf das Auftreten von Zinn in Form von "Stäbchen) ist ein chemisches Element im Periodensystem der Elemente mit dem Symbol Sn (lat. stannum „Zinn“) und der Ordnungszahl 50. Das silberweiß glänzende und sehr weiche  Schwermetall lässt sich mit dem Fingernagel ritzen. Auffällig sind sein niedriger Schmelzpunkt und die relativ hohe Siedetemperatur.

Cyna (Sn, łac. stannum) – pierwiastek chemiczny, metal z bloku p w układzie okresowym.Cyna tworzy odmiany alotropowe. W warunkach normalnych występuje w odmianie β (beta) zwanej cyną białą, trwałej powyżej 13,2°C. Odmiana ta na ma sieć krystaliczną układzie tetragonalnym, o gęstości 7,3 g/cm³. W temperaturach niższych przechodzi w odmianę regularną α (alfa) o gęstości 5,85 g/cm³. Zmiana gęstości jest równoznaczna ze zmianą objętości, co powoduje, że cyna rozpada się, tworząc szary proszek zwany cyną szarą. Zjawisko to nazywane jest zarazą cynową. Czysta cyna biała jest ciągliwa i kowalna, odporna na korozję.

Lo stagno è un elemento chimico nella tavola periodica che ha simbolo Sn e numero atomico 50. Questo metallo di post-transizione argenteo e malleabile, che non si ossida facilmente all'aria e resiste alla corrosione si usa in molte leghe e per ricoprire altri metalli più vulnerabili alla corrosione. Lo stagno si ottiene soprattutto dalla cassiterite, un minerale in cui è presente sotto forma di ossido.
