Schilddrüse
Die Schilddrüse (lat. Glandula thyr(e)oidea) ist eine wichtige Hormondrüse bei den Wirbeltieren und gehört zu den endokrinen Drüsen. Sie befindet sich bei Säugetieren am Hals unterhalb des Kehlkopfes vor der Luftröhre. Beim Menschen hat sie die Form eines Schmetterlings und liegt schildartig unterhalb des Schildknorpels vor der Luftröhre, was Anlass für ihre Benennung war.
