La thymine est une base azotée (base pyrimidique). On la trouve sous forme de nucléotide: dans l'ADN c'est la désoxythymidine monophosphate, et dans l'ARN la thymidine monophosphate. La thymine s'apparie avec l'adénine dans l'ADN (elle n'existe pas dans l'ARN où elle est remplacée par l'uracile).
