The thumb is the first digit of the hand. When a person is standing in the medical anatomical position (where the palm is facing anteriorly), the thumb is the lateral-most digit. Kciuk
Kciuk (łac. pollex) to u naczelnych pierwszy palec ręki przeciwstawny czterem pozostałym. Od pozostałych palców różni się także tym, składa się z dwóch a nie trzech paliczków - w tym podobny jest do palucha stopy. Kciuk zapewnia chwytność dłoni.

Za pomocą kciuka można wykonać gest (na zdjęciu), który do dziś znaczy jakąś pochwałę lub zgodę.

Kciuk jest wykorzystywany podczas gry na gitarze basowej w technice zwanej "slap"
