Le thiophène est un composé organique hétérocyclique aromatique. C'est un liquide limpide incolore ayant une odeur qui rappelle celle du benzène. Le thiophène est souvent trouvé naturellement dans le pétrole à des concentrations de quelques pourcents.

Thiophen auch Thiofuran genannt (als Substituent Thienyl-), ist eine in Wasser unlösliche Flüssigkeit, die bei 84 °C  siedet. Sie ist brennbar und leicht entzündlich. Thiophen ist eine organische Verbindung und zählt zu den Heteroaromaten mit einem Fünfring und Schwefel als Heteroatom. Es ist eine aromatische Verbindung mit sechs p-Elektronen, wobei vier von den Doppelbindungen stammen und zwei von einem freien Elektronenpaar des Schwefels. Die Verbindung ist strukturanalog mit Furan.

Tiofen, tiofuran - to związek heterocykliczny (aromatyczny) z jednym heteroatomem, zbudowany z czterech atomów węgla, czterech atomów wodoru oraz jednego atomu siarki (C4H4S).Tiofen to bezbarwna ruchliwa ciecz, nierozpuszczalna w wodzie, rozpuszczalna w alkoholu i eterze. Pod względem własności fizycznych zbliżony jest do benzenu. Występuje w smole pogazowej we frakcji benzenowej.Tiofen jest stosowany do syntezy organicznej.
