Un thing o þing en nórdico antiguo, era la asamblea de gobierno en las sociedades de las tribus germanas, hecho de los hombres libres de la comunidad y presidido por lagmans. Hoy en día el término continúa en los nombres oficiales de los legislaturas nacionales e instituciones políticas o judiciales en los países norgermánicos. La palabra inglesa 'thing' ("objeto"), también deriva de ésta.
