Le Pentagone est un bâtiment qui se trouve à Arlington (Virginie), près de Washington, D.C., la capitale fédérale des États-Unis d'Amérique. Cet édifice abrite le département de la Défense des États-Unis. Plus de 26 000 personnes y travaillent, parmi lesquelles des civils et des militaires. On lui donne ce nom en raison de sa forme de pentagone.

Das Pentagon ist der Hauptsitz des US-amerikanischen Verteidigungsministeriums. Mit seinen je 280 Meter langen Außenwänden, einer Grundfläche von rund 135.000 Quadratmetern und einem Volumen von rund 2 Millionen Kubikmetern ist es das mit Abstand größte Gebäude der Welt. Es liegt am Potomac River in Arlington (Virginia) direkt neben dem Nationalfriedhof Arlington an der Grenze zu Washington (D.C.). Trotz einer Gesamtlänge aller Korridore von knapp 17,5 Meilen (ca. 28,2 km) ist jeder Punkt im Bau von jedem anderen Punkt innerhalb des Gebäudes in unter sieben Minuten erreichbar .

Pentagon (ang. Pięciokąt) - siedziba Departamentu Obrony USA. Słowo "Pentagon" jest też często używane jako symboliczna nazwa Sił Zbrojnych USA i ogólnie całego kompleksu wojskowo-zbrojeniowego tego kraju.Zbudowany w pierwszych latach II wojny światowej, budynek otwarto 15 stycznia 1943. Jest to największy pod względem kubatury i liczby pomieszczeń budynek biurowy na świecie, nie będący wieżowcem. Stoi w Arlington w stanie Wirginia. Po drugiej stronie rzeki Potomak znajduje się główna dzielnica rządowa Waszyngtonu. W budynku pracuje 23 tysiące pracowników wojskowych i cywilnych oraz 3 tysiące personelu pomocniczego. Budynek ma 5 pięter, a każde piętro ma pięć korytarzy okrążających cały budynek. Pomimo że wszystkie korytarze maja razem 28 km długości, przejście między dwoma punktami w budynku zajmuje najwyżej 7 minut.
