In music, the term tessitura (Italian: texture) generally describes the most musically acceptable and comfortable timbre for a given voice or, less frequently, musical instrument. This broad definition is often interpreted to refer specifically to the pitch range that most frequently occurs within a given piece, or part, of music. For example, throughout the entirety of Wagner's Ring, the music written for the role of Siegfried ranges from C#3 to C5, but the tessitura is described as high because the tenor phrases are most often in the range of C4 to A4.

Eine Stimmlage ist ein Begriff, mit dem in der Musik Singstimmen oder Musikinstrumente anhand ihres Tonumfangs sortiert werden. Dabei gilt der Tonumfang, der bei normaler Funktion des Stimmorgans physiologisch oder des Instruments physikalisch erzeugt werden kann. Die häufigsten Stimmlagen sind Sopran, Alt, Tenor und Bass.

La tessitura è l'arte di costruire un tessuto. Si ottiene con l'intreccio dei fili di ordito con quello di trama.Nel caso del tessuto più semplice, la tela, i fili di ordito (verticali) sono divisi in due serie, quelli pari e quelli dispari, aprendo le due serie, una in alto e l'altra in basso, si ottiene un varco (passo) in cui si inserisce il filo di trama (orizzontale), con lo scambio di posto delle serie, quella che era in alto va in basso e viceversa, si ottiene un incrocio che blocca il filo di trama, questo deve essere battuto, cioè schiacciato, contro la trama precedente andando a costituire il tessuto.
