Deutsche Telekom AG (abbreviated DTAG, ) is a German  telecommunications company headquartered in Bonn, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is the largest telecommunications company in Europe. Deutsche Telekom was formed in 1996 as the former state-owned monopoly Deutsche Bundespost was privatized. As of June 2008, the German government still holds a 15% stake in company stock directly, and another 17% through the government bank KfW.

So wurden im 18. Jahrhundert sichtbare Signale von Optischen Telegrafen und Heliographen verwendet. Les télécommunications sont définies comme la transmission à distance d’informations avec des moyens à base d'électronique et d'informatique. Ce terme a un sens plus large que son acception équivalente officielle « communication électronique ». Elles se distinguent ainsi de la poste qui transmet des informations ou des objets sous forme physique.

Telekommunikation, av grekiska tele ’fjärran’ och latin communicatio ’ömsesidigt utbyte’, betyder kommunikation över stora avstånd. Benämns militärt även som samband. Det innefattar tekniker, artefakter och tjänster för att representera och överföra meddelanden mellan sändare och mottagare på geografiskt skilda platser via ett trådlöst eller trådbundet fysiskt medium. Meddelandet representeras av en fysisk signal, det vill säga en tidsvariarande fysikalisk storhet, till exempel elektrisk spänning, ljusstyrka eller radiovågors fältstyrka.
