La Techno hardcore se divise en plusieurs styles. Certains de ces styles sont considérés comme représentatifs de la branche la plus radicale et dure de la Techno avec un rythme souvent beaucoup plus rapide (170-220 BPM en général) mais surtout un spectre sonore plus appuyé dans les basses.

La techno hardcore è un genere musicale derivato dalla techno. L'hardcore nacque a Rotterdam, e si distingue per le sonorità potenti e aggressive. La sua caratteristica principale è l'uso di una drum machine Roland TR-909 con un distorsore in modo tale da generare un'onda quadra con pitch decrescente. Il ritmo della tipica musica techno-hardcore parte da circa 160 battiti per minuto in avanti. L'hardcore da discoteca non va confuso con la musica di corrente punk similmente detta hardcore (hardcore punk).

Hardstyle is een muziekgenre dat overeenkomsten vertoont met trance, hardcore en hardtrance. Hardstyle, ook wel hard dance, hard trance of hardbass in het buitenland genoemd, klinkt qua melodie en opbouw ongeveer als de moderne hardcore, maar is vaak ongeveer 30 BPM langzamer. Het gemiddelde tempo ligt tussen de 140 en de 165 beats per minuut. Vaak worden de nummers wel versneld afgespeeld door DJ's.
