systemic theory

suggests that changes in individuals and groups can only be understood in the context of the multiple systems (e.g., family, work, school, church) in which they occur.  Moreover, whenever we conceptualize the problem as occurring with a given context, we are likely overlooking a larger context which would help to explain it better.
