In grammar, a suffix — a form of affix — follows the morpheme to which it attaches. Suffixes can be inflectional or derivational.An inflectional suffix is sometimes called a desinence.Suffixes appear as additions at the end of a word or at the end of part of a word.

Ein Suffix (n, von lat. suffixum, „An-, Aufgestecktes“) ist in der Linguistik ein Affix, das einem Grundmorphem (Wortstamm) angehängt ist. Es wird umgangssprachlich auch Nachsilbe beziehungsweise Endung genannt. Als Affix ist es ein gebundenes, nicht lexikalisches Morphem. Es dient als Flexionssuffix der Flexion oder als Derivationssuffix der Wortbildung eines Grundwortes durch Ableitung (Derivation).

Een suffix of achtervoegsel is een affix dat achter de woordstam wordt gevoegd. Doordat het een gebonden morfeem is, kan het niet als zelfstandig woord voorkomen.

Suffix är en betydelsebärande orddel (morfem) som placeras efter rotmorfemet (eller i sammansatta ord rotmorfemen), men som i sig själv ej kan utgöra ett självständigt ord. Ex.: -lig i daglig, -else i födelse.
