Spontaneous memory recovery, in psychology, is a phenomenon which was first seen in classical (Pavlovian) conditioning and later discovered in memory functioning. The general pattern of spontaneous memory recovery found in Pavlovian conditioning in animals essentially encompasses two varying habits learned by the animal. Where there is an initial predominance of habit A over habit B, over time habit B predominates over habit A; this parallels learning in the human memory process.
