Spam
Spam (its name a portmanteau of the words "Spiced" and "Ham") is a canned precooked meat product made by the Hormel Foods Corporation, first introduced in 1937. The labeled ingredients in the classic variety of Spam are chopped pork shoulder meat, with ham meat added, salt, water, modified potato starch as a binder, and sodium nitrite as a preservative. Spam's gelatinous glaze, or aspic, forms from the cooling of meat stock. The product has become part of many jokes and urban legends about mystery meat, which has made it part of pop culture and folklore. Through a Monty Python sketch, in which Spam is portrayed as ubiquitous and inescapable, its name has come to be given to electronic spam, including spam email.

Spam
Als Spam [] oder Junk (englisch für ‚Abfall‘ oder ‚Plunder‘) werden unerwünschte, in der Regel auf elektronischem Weg übertragene Nachrichten bezeichnet, die dem Empfänger unverlangt zugestellt werden und häufig werbenden Inhalt haben. Dieser Vorgang wird Spamming oder Spammen genannt, der Verursacher Spammer.

- SPAM (en majuscules) est une marque de commerce pour la viande en conserve, mis en boîte de métal par la compagnie américaine Hormel Inc et conçu pour en faire du sandwich. Bien que ce « spiced ham » (jambon épicé) soit préparé à partir des chutes de découpe d'autres morceaux de viande plus nobles, le produit était populaire dans les régions lointaines comme Hawaii pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale car il était facile à transporter et à entreposer.
- On peut utiliser aussi le mot spam (mais en minuscules) pour le pourriel et l'usage abusif de l'Internet.

Pourriel
Le pourriel ou le spam (anglicisme) désigne une communication électronique, notamment du courrier électronique, non sollicitée par les destinataires, expédiée en masse à des fins publicitaires ou malhonnêtes. Le terme polluriel est, plus rarement, utilisé pour désigner le pourriel.

Spam
Spam to niechciane elektroniczne wiadomości niezgodne z omawianym tematem. Najbardziej rozpowszechniony jest spam za pośrednictwem poczty elektronicznej oraz w Usenecie. Zwykle (choć nie zawsze) jest wysyłany masowo.
Istotą spamu jest rozsyłanie dużej liczby informacji komercyjnych o jednakowej treści do nieznanych sobie osób. Nie ma znaczenia, jaka jest treść tych wiadomości. Aby określić wiadomość mianem spamu, musi ona spełnić trzy następujące warunki jednocześnie:
- Treść wiadomości jest niezależna od tożsamości odbiorcy.
- Odbiorca nie wyraził uprzedniej, zamierzonej zgody na otrzymanie tej wiadomości.
- Treść wiadomości daje podstawę do przypuszczeń, iż nadawca wskutek jej wysłania może odnieść zyski nieproporcjonalne w stosunku do korzyści odbiorcy.
