A solar cell (also called photovoltaic cell or photoelectric cell) is a solid state electrical device that converts the energy of light directly into electricity by the photovoltaic effect.

Solarzelle
Eine Solarzelle oder photovoltaische Zelle ist ein elektrisches Bauelement, das kurzwellige Strahlungsenergie, in der Regel Sonnenlicht, direkt in elektrische Energie wandelt. Die physikalische Grundlage der Umwandlung ist der photovoltaische Effekt, der ein Sonderfall des inneren photoelektrischen Effekts ist.

Cellule photovoltaïque
Une cellule photovoltaïque (ou « photo-galvanique ») est un composant électronique qui, exposé à la lumière (photons), génère de l'électricité. C'est l'effet photovoltaïque qui est à l'origine du phénomène. Le courant obtenu est fonction de la lumière incidente. L'électricité produite est fonction de l'éclairement, la cellule photovoltaïque produit un courant continu.

Solcell
En solcell eller en fotovoltaisk cell är en anordning bestående av halvledare (ofta kisel) som fungerar som dioder. När dessa dioder belyses uppstår en elektrisk ström i diodens backriktning. Varje enskild cell ger upphov till en ganska låg spänning, varför solcellerna seriekopplas i solpaneler. Man kan också parallellkoppla solcellerna om man vill öka strömstyrkan.

Ogniwo sloneczne
Ogniwo słoneczne, ogniwo fotowoltaiczne, ogniwo fotoelektryczne, fotoogniwo to element półprzewodnikowy, w którym następuje przemiana energii promieniowania słonecznego (światła) w energię elektryczną w wyniku zjawiska fotowoltaicznego.

Fotoogniwa słoneczne są produkowane z materiałów półprzewodnikowych najczęściej z krzemu (Si), germanu (Ge), selenu (Se). Zwykłe ogniwo słoneczne z krystalicznego krzemu ma nominalne napięcie ok. 0,5 V. Poprzez połączenie szeregowe ogniw słonecznych, można otrzymać baterie słoneczne. Istnieją baterie z różną liczbą ogniw, w zależności od zastosowania, jak i od jakości ogniw.
