Soft
Soft!
Soft! is a novel by British writer
Rupert Thomson, written in
1998. It is published by
Bloomsbury Publishing Plc of
London.Apparently acting as participants in a sleep experiment, the protagonists of this novel find themselves the unwitting word-of-mouth advertisers of 'Kwench!', a new soft drink. Although this novel explores an intriguing idea and provides much that is both thought provoking and entertaining, the abrupt ending and apparent disinterest, by the end, of the author, in his subjects, makes for an unsatisfying conclusion, with the distinct feeling that much more could have been achieved. Thomson's prose is, as always, compelling, but this novel fails to reflect the talent so dramatically displayed in both 'The Book of Revelation' and 'Dreams of Leaving'.
