The term socialization is used by sociologists, social psychologists and educationalists to refer to the process of learning one’s culture and how to live within it. For the individual it provides the resources necessary for acting and participating within their society. For the society, inducting all individual members into its moral norms, attitudes, values, motives, social roles, language and symbols is the ‘means by which social and cultural continuity are attained’ (Clausen 1968: 5).

La socialisation est un processus d'apprentissage qui permet à un individu d'acquérir les modèles culturels de la société dans laquelle il vit et agit. Elle est le résultat à la fois d'une contrainte imposée par certains agents sociaux, mais aussi et surtout d'une interaction entre l'individu et son environnement. Si elle favorise la reproduction sociale, elle n'élimine pas pour autant les possibilités de changement social.

Die Sozialisation (aus dem Lateinischen, sociare = verbinden) ist die Anpassung an gesellschaftliche Denk- und Gefühlsmuster durch Internalisation (Verinnerlichung) von Normen. Sozialisation ist ein sozialwissenschaftlicher Begriff. Sie bezeichnet zum einen die Entwicklung der Persönlichkeit aufgrund ihrer Interaktion mit einer spezifischen, materiellen und sozialen Umwelt, zum anderen die sozialen Bindungen von Individuen, die sich im Zuge sozialisatorischer Beziehungen konstituieren. Sie umfasst sowohl die absichtsvollen und planvollen Maßnahmen (=Erziehung) als auch die unabsichtlichen Einwirkungen auf die Persönlichkeit.

Socjalizacja (łac. socialis = społeczny) to proces (oraz rezultat tego procesu) nabywania przez jednostkę systemu wartości, norm oraz wzorów zachowań, obowiązujących w danej zbiorowości. Socjalizacja trwa przez całe życie człowieka, lecz w największym nasileniu występuje, gdy dziecko rozpoczyna życie w społeczeństwie. Największą rolę na tym etapie odgrywają jego rodzice, później także wychowawcy i rówieśnicy oraz instytucje (takie jak szkoła czy kościół).

Socialisatie is het leerproces om te leren omgaan met jezelf en anderen. Het maakt deel uit van de opvoeding. Ingelijfd worden in de maatschappij om hier te functioneren.Socialisatie is het eigen maken van gewoontes en gebruiken van bepaalde groepen en cultuur overbrengen van de ene generaties naar de andere. Je hebt hierbij twee verschillen niveaus van socialisatie. Dit zijn de primaire socialisatie, hierbij kijken we naar het proces dat plaats vind in een gezin en bij secundaire socialisatie wordt gekeken naar het proces dat bijvoorbeeld op school en bij vrienden plaatsvindt.
