social psychology

Social psychology is the study of how social conditions affect human beings. Scholars in this field are generally either psychologists or sociologists, though all social psychologists employ both the individual and the group as their units of analysis. Despite their similarity, the disciplines also tend to differ in their respective goals, approaches, methods, and terminology. They also favor separate academic journals and societies.

La psychologie sociale est une discipline qui en tant que branche commune à la psychologie et à la sociologie (une psychologie pour sociologues en même temps qu'une sociologie pour psychologues) s'intéresse d'une part à l'influence des processus cognitifs et sociaux sur les relations entre les individus (relations interpersonnelles), et d'autre part à la façon dont ces deux dimensions en intéragissant entre elles produisent tantôt du « social », tantôt du « psychologique ». Schématiquement, elle étudie les interactions des individus en groupe, en société et dans les organisations, dans leur double dimension d'agents psychologiques et sociaux.
