Association football, commonly known as football or soccer, is a team sport played between two teams of 11 players. It is the most popular sport in the world. Football is a ball game played on a rectangular grass or artificial turf field, with a goal at each of the short ends. The object of the game is to score by manoeuvring the ball into the opposing goal. In general play, the goalkeeper is the only player allowed to use their hands or arms to propel the ball; the rest of the team usually use their feet to kick the ball into position, occasionally using their torso or head to intercept a ball in mid air. The team that scores the most goals by the end of the match wins. If the score is tied at the end of the game, either a draw is declared or the game goes into extra time and/or a penalty shootout, depending on the format of the competition.

Fußball ist ein Ballsport, bei dem zwei Mannschaften mit je elf Spielern (einem Torhüter und zehn Feldspielern) gegeneinander antreten. Ziel ist es, den Ball ins gegnerische Tor zu bringen. Fußball wird vorwiegend mit dem Fuß gespielt, jedoch dürfen die Feldspieler auch andere Körperteile, ausgenommen ihre Hände und Arme, verwenden. Der Torhüter ist der einzige Spieler der jeweiligen Mannschaft, der den Ball mit der Hand spielen darf, und das auch nur innerhalb des eigenen Strafraums.

Piłka nożna (ang. football) – gra zespołowa, najpopularniejsza na świecie dyscyplina sportowa. W zawodach (meczach) piłkarskich uczestniczą 2 rywalizujące ze sobą drużyny. Celem gry jest umieszczenie piłki w bramce przeciwnika, zwycięża drużyna, która uczyni to więcej razy. Mecze piłkarskie odbywają się na prostokątnym, pokrytym murawą boisku. Rozmiary boiska to 45 m do 90 m szerokości i długości od 90 m do 120 m. Od 14 marca 2008 roku każde nowe boisko powinno mieć wymiary 105 m - długość, 65 m- szerokość.

Il termine Soccer identifica il gioco del calcio nei Paesi extraeuropei di lingua inglese. Molto usato soprattutto negli Stati Uniti e in Canada, ma anche in Australia, tale termine deriva dalla contrazione di Association football, che è il nome proprio della disciplina (Football essendo, nel Regno Unito, in genere qualsiasi sport con la palla: per esempio Rugby Union Football è il rugby a 15; Rugby League Football è il rugby a 13, e così via).

Il calcio (ingl. Association football o, più familiarmente, football) è un gioco sportivo nel quale si fronteggiano due squadre composte ciascuna da undici giocatori. Per praticarlo sono utilizzati un pallone sferico ed un campo di gioco con due porte. Il gioco è regolamentato da una serie di norme codificate e il suo obiettivo è quello di segnare più punti (goal) dell'avversario facendo passare il pallone fra i pali della porta avversaria.
