Shivering
Shivering (also called shuddering) is a bodily function in response to early hypothermia in warm-blooded animals. When the core body temperature drops, the shivering reflex is triggered to maintain homeostasis. Muscle groups around the vital organs begin to shake in small movements in an attempt to create warmth by expending energy. Shivering can also be a response to a fever, as a person may feel cold, though their core temperature is already elevated.

Postoperatives Zittern
Als Postoperatives (Kälte-)zittern (Shivering) bezeichnet man ein unwillkürliches, nicht unterdrückbares Zittern, durch das der Körper Wärmeverluste (Hypothermie), die durch eine Narkose (Allgemeinanästhesie) oder Regionalanästhesie entstanden sind, auszugleichen versucht. Es tritt bei 5–60 Prozent der Patienten auf. Neben subjektivem Unwohlsein können dadurch bei vorerkrankten Patienten Komplikationen des Herz-Kreislaufsystems ausgelöst werden. Es existieren effektive therapeutische und prophylaktische Maßnahmen.

Zittern
Zittern ist eine reflexartige Körperfunktion, die bei Säugetieren und Vögeln mit gleich bleibenden Körpertemperaturen auf eine (gefühlte) Kälteeinwirkung reagiert (Frieren) oder aufgrund starker Emotionen entsteht.

Dreszcze
Dreszcze - drobnofaliste drżenie ciała wywołane nieskoorodynowanymi skurczami mięśni, pojawiające się zwykle podczas szybkiego wzrostu ogólnej temperatury ciała do wysokich wartości. Do takiego stanu dochodzi najczęściej podczas ostrych chorób zakaźnych np. w przypadku malarii, duru plamistego lub powrotnego. Dreszcze pojawiają się także w ostrym odmiedniczkowym zapaleniu nerek czy zapaleniu płuc. Mogą również towarzyszyć uczuciu zimna.

Arrepio
Arrepio é uma função corporal humana em resposta ao frio. Quando a temperatura interna do corpo diminui, o reflexo de arrepio é disparado. O grupo de músculos em volta dos órgãos vitais começam a tremer em pequenos movimentos na tentativa de criar calor gastando energia.
Outras respostas observadas em pessoas com frio (por exemplo, nadadores saindo de uma piscina em um dia de vento frio), são dançar sem sair do lugar, abraçar a si mesmo com os braços ao redor do torso, aconchegar-se e usar isolantes térmico como toalhas.
O arrepio protege o corpo das baixas temperaturas. O ar é um dos melhores sistemas de isolamento térmico. Em baixas temperaturas, ocorre o arrepio. Os pêlos levantados fazem com que uma camada de ar fique parada sobre a pele, funcionando como isolante térmico.
