A Shed is typically a simple, single-story structure in a back garden or on an allotment that is used for storage, hobbies, or as a workshop. The modern Oxford English Dictionary (OED) defines sheds as a "slight structure built for shelter or storage, or for use as a workshop, either attached as a lean-to to a permanent building or separate; often with open front or sides." Sheds vary considerably in the complexity of their construction and their size, from small open-sided tin-roofed structures to large wood-framed sheds with shingled roofs, windows, and electrical outlets. Sheds used on farms or in industry can be large structures.

Dans la Mythologie égyptienne, Shed (Le sauveur) est un dieu enfant (représenté avec la tresse caractéristique de l'enfance en Égypte) du Nouvel Empire. Guérisseur qui protège des animaux vénéneux. Ses attributs, proches de ceux d'Horus l'Enfant, finissent par l'assimiler à celui-ci et il devient Horus-Shed.

Ein Sheddach, gelegentlich auch Scheddach, ist eine Dachform, die vor allem bei großflächigen Bauten wie zum Beispiel Fabrikhallen zum Einsatz kommt. Durch mehrfaches Hintereinandersetzen von kleinen satteldachartigen Aufbauten bleibt die Dachhöhe insgesamt gering. Die Neigung der beiden Seiten jedes Reiters ist normalerweise verschieden, in der Regel ist eine Seite sogar senkrecht, damit das Gebäude weniger Stützen für den Dachaufbau benötigt.

Ett skjul är en mindre byggnad som ofta används för förvaring, exempelvis för trädgårdsredskap. Ej att förväxla med dumpskjul som är en annan benämning för utedass.
