senior high school

High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of secondary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of secondary education takes place.

Bywa zakończona egzaminem dojrzałości.Przed rokiem 1999 w Polsce szkołami średnimi nazywano licea ogólnokształcące i zawodowe oraz technika. Reforma systemu oświaty z 1999 roku wprowadziła zmianę terminologii: szkoły po ukończeniu gimnazjum nazywa się od tego czasu szkołami ponadgimnazjalnymi.

Een historische benaming binnen het onderwijs in Nederland en België. Een middelbare school was de naam die werd gegeven aan een school die middelbaar onderwijs aanbood aan studenten. Het was de school die volgde op de school die lager onderwijs onderwijs aanbood aan scholieren, en voorafging aan de school die hoger onderwijs aanbood aan hoogstudenten. De historische benaming werd in het laatste kwartaal van de 20e eeuw vervangen:in België : door secundair onderwijsin Nederland : door voortgezet onderwijs
